PSV Social Pods

Social Pods
Pods (1)_edited.jpg

Is your child interested in meeting other children

in their grade but in other Los Angeles private schools?

Are you interested in trying to make sure our children continue to "see" themselves in the private school community?

PSV offers grade level social pods for families who attend Los Angeles private schools that sponsor PSV. These pods are parent led, grouped by grade level, and meet regularly. Grouped grade levels, for now, are PreK-K, 1st-2nd, 3rd-4th, 5th-6th, and 7th-8th.

We hope these pods continue to give children opportunities to connect while also building cultural pride and knowledge, and that lasting bonds are created.

This year we will have some pre-organized activities and pod leaders will fill in additional gatherings around those dates as opportunities and time permits.

Check out upcoming Pod activities under our "events" tab here.

Parent Social Pod Leaders work closely with PSV to create a calendar of planned activities that are low to no-cost. This could include:

  • Classes (pods facilitate a mix of virtual and/or in-person, age-appropriate classes from cooking and etiquette to Black history and college readiness)

    • For any classes taken as a pod, students will meet before the class begins, have a mandatory connecting, social task prior to each class start as well as a mandatory closing regrouping activity.

    • Additional class ideas: Talent Show/Games, Cooking for the Culture, Racial Literacy Skill Building, Learning about the Diaspora, Black History from a Decolonized Perspective class, Private Servers for Online Gaming, Career Discussions, etc.

  • Community Service Projects: LA Family Housing’s “Welcome Home Basket” Donation Drive, Hashtag Lunchbag Service Project, etc.

  • In-Person Activities: Roller Skating, K-1 Racing Car Driving, Putt-Putt Golf, etc (depending on costs)

  • Beyond Breathe: Anxiety and depression can be 6 times as high for students in high achieving schools. Add on the load of being Black in private school and it’s no wonder that suicide and self harm among Black teens is on the rise when compared to their white peers. We need to give our children more tools to deal with mental health and normalize its importance — this once-a-week, 3-week session is a great start; facilitated by UCLA Sky Happiness Program
